New North West Tasmania Job Ready Program

The North-West Tasmania Job Ready Generation Package funds initiatives that support the upskilling of 600 north-west Tasmanians with qualifications and on-the-job training required in the growth sectors of agriculture, mining, manufacturing, building and construction.

One key area is to encourage more schools-based apprenticeships.

More funding is being made available to help North West employers find a new generation of staff and help senior school students find a rewarding career through school-based apprenticeships or traineeships.

The North West School Based Apprenticeship Grant Program provides grants of $2,500 to encourage local employers to find students looking to learn a trade while they complete year 10, 11 and 12.  Employers that operate in an identified growth industry can apply for funding when they commence a school based apprentice or trainee and the program also includes employers that have taken on a school-based apprentice or trainee from 1 June 2021.

In total the grant program will support up to 100 school-based apprentices and trainees in starting their journey to employment and come out with a practical qualification while still engaging in schooling.

Applications will be accepted from employers whose business operates in one of the following sectors:
•    Energy and Infrastructure;
•    Accommodation and Food Services;
•    Building and Construction;
•    Advanced Manufacturing;
•    Mining;
•    Information and Communications Technology;
•    Aged Services;
•    Disability Services;
•    Agriculture;
•    Aquaculture; and
•    Transport and Logistics.

This is in addition to the Boosting Apprenticeships Wage subsidies of up to $28,000 in the first year. See here for more information on those.
